• Phantom of the Forest ─ the Black Eagle

In the moist forest roams a shadow cloaked with dark brown plumage. Like a mysterious and elegant black knight it soars amongst the trees and in the sky. Though huge in size, it is excellent at flying because of its wide wingspan. This enables it to glide slowly at low altitude and inside the forest, deftly weaving between the big trees looking for prey in the canopy. It is the eagle of the forest; the latest resident bird discovered in Taiwan ─the Black Eagle Ictinaetus malayensis (Temminck, 1822).
